Engagements

In the beginning of June Shay and I went and got our engagements done. It was so much fun! Our photographer was wonderful. We did two different locations and two different outfits. The first location was in downtown Ogden, around some of the old buildings, and underneath the bridge on 24th and wall. That was way cool, especially going under the bridge. I never would have thought of having pictures underneath there! Then the next location was up in Mantua in a field of poppy flowers. Those were amazing and matched my dress perfectly! (which was not planned by the way...haha). But we just got the CD back full of them last week and we are preparing to send announcements pretty soon! It's crazy how fast things are going. I can't believe we pretty much only have a month left before the big day! I'm very excited, but nervous at the same time haha just because there is still so much to do. This past Saturday I went shopping for decorations with the girls in my family and my mother-in-law to be and let me tell you it was insane! Pretty sure that is the hard part about this whole wedding thing. Planning is easy, but then actually putting that plan into action and organizing everything so that you are ready to put it into action is the hard part, but I'm so grateful for all the girls in my family and for Shay's momma. They have all been so helpful and there is no way I could do this all by myself.

My favorite one of us :)

Under the bridge on 24th and wall :)

In a couple of weeks I will be getting my bridals done as well. Those I am really excited for! I love my dress and can't wait to spend some quality time with my momma, who will be going with me to get them done. It'll be a good time for sure! Plus I love my photographer haha. That always helps! But I just have felt so blessed lately because even though this has been way stressful, I have been able to stay sane throughout all of it! I have a huge support group and have received help whenever I have needed it. 39 days and counting! Wohoo!

Ole!

Minnesota Stars stun RSL 3-1 in the U.S. Open Cup
REAL Salt Lake!! Super excited to go to their game tonight!

So as of late...I have become a huge soccer fan! Which isn't a huge mystery since Shay is...and pretty much the whole entire Dixon family! But to be honest I've never really had the patience for soccer. In previous times of my life, whenever I would try to sit down and watch it I usually would watch like two seconds of it and be like..."boring!"....but seeing as how I am marrying someone who has played it since he could walk....I figured I should at least give it a shot. And to simply put it....since I have, my life has been changed forever haha. My first real experience with soccer was at the REAL Salt Lake's home opener. Words cannot describe how legit it was. It was a lot more exciting than I thought it was going to be and it was then that I realized soccer in my eyes had the potential of being a really cool sport. However, not until I started going to Shay's brothers soccer games did I really appreciate the sport and how epic it is! I loved going to watch his younger brothers, Parker and Zac, play for Weber High School. There was never a dull moment that was for sure. Towards the end of the season, when they were starting the state playoffs, I was jumping up and down and yelling at the officials just like everyone else. I would lean over to Shay and be like that was cheap or that should have been an off sides. I think the first time I said something like that Shay's mouth dropped to the ground haha. So I guess it's time to own up and confess how I really feel about soccer......it's amazing and I love it....the end.
Weber's Parker Dixon (13) tries to get around Jordan's Peter Funaro (10) in Pleasant View on Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Weber defeated Jordan, 4-1. NICHOLAS DRANEY/Standard-Examiner
Parker killin it like usual
On a side note! Parker just graduated from high school and is leaving this Friday to play soccer for West Point Academy in New York! I have enjoyed watching him play soccer and will miss seeing this kid at the Dixon household. But I know he is going to have so much fun at West Point and is going to have many fun and exciting experiences!
Zac tearin it up in a region game!
But luckily Shay and I will still have someone to watch still, his little brother Zac! and lets be honest if you've ever seen Zac play soccer, then you know he's a beast! haha

Blessings

It seems lately that Shay and I have been so blessed! and in many aspects of our lives both collectively and individually. I just currently finished a semester of school and was out of a job. Shay, at the time, worked for America First Credit Union in the accounting department. He suggested I apply for a job as a teller and that he would go ahead and send an email referring me as a good canidate to hire. Months passed by and nothing happened, until one day I received a call from the America First Branch right by my house! Couple interviews and weeks later I was a new employee of the America First Credit Union. It was a huge blessing and couldn't have come at a better time. It's been about 3 weeks now and I have never been happier with where I am working. The atmosphere is great and I love the people I work with. I am so fortunate and grateful for the opportunity I've been given to better my skills and to help those around me.

Shay was also blessed with a new job as well! He was offered and accepted a position within America First as an interal auditor or the more official term is business process analyst ;) He just started a couple of weeks ago and according to him it is going well. It is a heavier job load and requires a lot of extra learning, but the benefits definitely outweight the cons. Besides there is nothing Shay can't handle. He is amazing with change and can adapt to anything that comes his way. He's pretty much my hero is what I'm saying.

But not only have we been blessed with great jobs, but we just recently put a deposit on an apartment in West Haven! It is the perfect location, top floor...end unit, price, and place we want to begin our new journey together. It was very exciting and a huge step for both of us. I cannot wait to begin my life with Shay and look forward to every phase, whether it is the honeymoon phase or the phase right after where you're thinking....what in the heck did I just do!? haha...totally kidding! These blessings have been a huge testimony builder that the Lord loves his children and will bless them if they but ask and do those things that are right. Here's to two great new jobs and a new apartment! Woohoo!

Yes

Now that you have the back story of how Shay and I met, let me tell you the story of how he proposed. Over the course of several months, like I said in the last post, I just fell in love with Shay more and more everyday and with every date! Our dates were always crazy fun and ranged from going to Jazz games, wrestling in the snow, watching movies, reading scriptures, going bowling, cooking fun foods, going to the temple, playing volleyball...to just sitting on his front porch talking. Whatever it was I knew it would be fun because I was with Shay. However, the last month before he proposed was one of the bests. Our relationship really blossomed and every time I knelt in prayer or opened my scriptures and asked my Heavenly Father if this was right.....I felt an overwhelming sensation that it was. The last couple of weeks of March we started to talk about it...then on into April we went and looked at rings and finally on April 24th, he knelt down and asked me to marry him!....and this my friends...is how he did just that.

Shay had just graduated from Weber State University with a degree in accounting and I had just finished another year of college and a semester of student teaching 2-4 year olds. We decided that those reasons alone meant we should celebrate. Shay had told me to be ready that night to go out to eat and then we would do something fun. All day I was super excited to go out to eat and to just be with Shay....little did I know he had something completely different planned. He picked me up later that night. As we were getting ready to drive away he said oh so casually, "So before we go eat tonight I just have to run by the seminary building for my dad and grab some papers he forgot for interviews tonight." I thought nothing of it and was like sure! After we got to the building he ran in and was gone for a couple of minutes, until he came back out and claimed he could not find the papers anywhere! Thinking....of course he can't, I walked into the building and was blown back by the sight before my eyes.

There were candles everywhere, music was playing, and dinner was ready. I couldn't believe it! It was more than perfect. Shay grabbed my hand and led me over to the middle of the room and we began to dance. I teared up a little of course and just said I love you, I love you, I love you! haha

After dinner we danced for a little bit, we sat down to dinner by candle light. He had prepared lasagna, corn, yummy minute maid, and french bread. Then we had a small dance party and enjoyed each others company.....but you have to know why he proposed like this. One night, while we were just sitting and talking, I had told Shay I wished we had been able to go to a school dance together.....thus the bare floor and music. He was trying to recreate a school dance for as best he could....and boy did he nail it!

After dancing we ate ice cream sandwiches and took photos. As we took the photos he told me we had to take a serious one. I thought okay no big deal! He set up the camera and then walked away. I noticed that the green light was staying on....it was then I began to become suspicious. Minutes later he walked out and in his hand was a little black box. Tears began to fill my eyes and I started to say shut up shut up! haha Shay walked over and kneeled down on one kneed and said, "Sarah, will you marry me?" Through tears of joy I said yes! It was better than anything I had ever dreamed of and the ring is just the icing on the cake. Since then we have both been blessed abundantly and life just keeps getting better. I am so blessed and grateful to my Heavenly Father for how gracious he has been to me. :)

Salt and Pepper

So this is the story of how Shay and I met! We met in our singles ward....a ward that I became a part of after my other YSA ward was split last October.  I was devastated when it first happened, but quickly got over it because of the overall feel of the ward. Everyone was super nice and it wasn't hard at all to make friends. The first time I met Shay was just after I had received my new calling as an Family Home Evening coordinator. We were doing a thanksgiving feast along with a Book of Mormon scripture study. Long story short I somehow ended up sitting next to him. As we sat there waiting for opening exercises my friend and I were playing the salt and pepper shakers. We were screwing on and off the lids and the person I am I tried smelling them. Some of the pepper got on the table and without even thinking I started to wipe it off the table.....right into Shay's lap who was sitting right next to me! haha I was so embarrassed and felt horrible. After that I figured, what they hey, the kid already probably hates me for spilling pepper into his lap, why not try to get him to sniff it as well? So I did! and of course he didn't, but it was a great way to start talking to him! After that incident with the salt and pepper we would just say hello to each other in the halls at church and in passing, until in Sacrament one Sunday our bishop (aka his dad) announced there would be a bishop's date night and it was girls choice. I immediately thought of Shay...I just didn't know how or when! Until one night after giving the FHE lesson and going out and doing visits we came back to the seminary building and had some refreshments. Everyone was talking and hanging out when I saw Shay getting ready to leave. All the sudden before I knew it I yelled out his name and started walking forward....tripping over the desk and almost falling on my face! haha.....Shay just laughed, but was nice enough to not say anything about it. But I asked him out and of course he said yes! So on December 29th we went on our first date to the Syracuse fun center. We played golf, went bowling, and then went to his house after and played Wii. Couple weeks later we went on another date. We watched the Help, made danish pastries and cuddled on the couch. Each date got better and better and I quickly fell in love with his smile, laugh, countenance, and everything about him! Before I knew it we had this great and amazing growing relationship that was unstoppable. I have never felt so blessed and so lucky before in my life. I am truly blessed to have this great man in my life to call my own and to share eternity with come August 3rd.

You and I

Welcome to the blog of Shay Dixon and soon to be Sarah Dixon aka currently known as Sarah Bokinskie! I thought I'd start a blog for the family and friends that want to know what's going on, as we will begin a new journey in August! August 3rd to be exact. But for now I'll give you our back story of how we met, how he proposed and what we have been up to.
